A ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) approved this Tuesday (25) the transfer fee of the energy produced by hydroelectric plant of Itaipu for 2023.

The value will be US$20,23 per kW per month this year, a drop of 18% compared to the value charged last year, which was US$ 24,73/kW.

With the decision, the quota distributors that receive energy from the plant will apply the new value to tariffs with retroactive effect to January.

Basically, the Itaipu transfer fee is the amount paid by distributors who purchase energy from the plant through ENBPar (Empresa Brasileira de Participações em Energia Nuclear e Binacional), which took over the operation of the hydroelectric plant after the privatization of Eletrobras.

With 20 generating units and 14.000 MW of installed power, the Itaipu plant meets around 11,3% of demand in the Brazilian market and 88,1% in the Paraguayan market.

The plant was built based on an international treaty signed between Brazil and Paraguay on April 26, 1973, with the aim of making use of the water resources of the Paraná River, belonging to both countries.
