ANEEL approves transmission auction with large investments in MG

The notice for Transmission Auction No. 1/2022, to be carried out by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) on June 30 at B3's headquarters in São Paulo, was approved this Tuesday (24) by the Agency's board, with large investments planned for the renewable energy sector in the state of Minas Gerais. 

In the event, 13 lots will be tendered for the construction and maintenance of 5,425 km of transmission lines and 6,180 MVA in substation transformation capacity, with 31,697 direct jobs expected during the construction period.

In total, of the R$ 15.3 billion planned in investments, around R$ 12.27 billion will be concentrated only in Minas Gerais (Lots 1 to 3), to flow energy generated by renewable sources. 

Lots 1 and 3 include the construction and maintenance of large works such as Buritizeiro 3, in São Gonçalo do Pará; and Capelinha 3, in Janaúba, with 351.5 km and 700 km with 351.5 km in transmission lines, respectively. 

Broadcast auction

In addition to Minas Gerais, the projects, with a completion period of 42 to 60 months, will also cover 12 other states: Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Rondônia, Santa Catarina, São Paulo and Sergipe. 

Lots 8 to 12 of the Auction, with an estimated investment of R$ 2.19 billion, relate to projects already tendered, but not implemented and with contract expiry already declared by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME).

Public consultation

The Public Consultation (No. 71/2021), which discussed the draft notice with society, was held between November 26, 2021 and January 10, 2022 and received 92 contributions from 16 participants.

Before publishing the document with information about the transmission auction, ANEEL also promoted a workshop about the competition notice, which also underwent evaluation by the TCU (Federal Audit Court).
