A ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) started a campaign to raise awareness among the population and alert transmission companies about the risks of fires in power lines and substations at this time of year.
With the beginning of the dry period, especially between July and August, the risk of fires intensifies, requiring some actions to be taken to prevent network problems from harming the country’s electricity supply.
The campaign "Being without light is fire. Fires erase your energy” will be broadcast on social media and radio spots, guiding the population to call the fire department number 193 whenever you identify fires close to the fire towers. transmission and substations.
The campaign also aims to alert transmission concessionaires about the importance of carrying out plant suppression in the line easement areas.
“In addition to the lack of maintenance of transmission line tracks, the occurrence of bushfires and forest fires is a major concern. These incidents occur mainly in Piauí, Maranhão, Bahia, Tocantins and Goiás, in addition to other states and regions of the country”, informs the ANEEL
“However, due to the fact that the Brazilian electrical system is almost entirely interconnected, a fire in a remote location in one of these states can cause 'cascading' shutdowns of transmission lines across the country, increasing the risk of major interruptions. power. These undesirable occurrences have already been experienced a few times in the history of Brazil and the losses to industry, commerce and the entire Brazilian population were incalculable.”, added the regulatory agency.
