ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) approved this Tuesday (18) the notice for auctions A-3 and A-4 and informed that they will be held on June 25th with live transmission on the CCEE portal (Chamber of Commercialization of Electric Energy).

In total, EPE (Energy Research Company) registered 1,841 projects for the event, totaling 66,862 megawatts (MW) of power. The start of supply for auction A-3 is on January 1, 2024 and for Auction A-4, on January 1, 2025.

The supply period depends on the energy source. For wind and solar photovoltaic projects, which total 64,519 MW of registered power, possible contracting will be in quantity mode with a supply period of 20 years.

The hydroelectric projects, with 985 MW of registered power, will also be contracted by quantity, with a 30-year supply. As for the biomass thermoelectric source, with 1,358 MW registered, the contracts will be based on availability with a 20-year supply.

According to ANEEL, the reference marginal cost of auctions A-3 and A-4 is R$ 292.00 per MWh. In the case of projects without a grant, the initial prices for contracting will be R$ 292.00/MWh, for hydroelectric sources, R$ 198.00/MWh, for wind and solar sources, and R$ 292.00/MWh, for biomass thermoelectric plant.

For projects with a grant, the reference prices will be R$ 245.14/MWh, for hydroelectric sources from small hydroelectric plants and hydroelectric generating plants, and R$ 170.37/MWh, for energy generated by hydroelectric plants.

Among the registered projects, 67% of them are located in four states in the Northeast Region, which concentrate 69% of the power registered with EPE for the two auctions: Bahia, with 597 projects and 20,727 MW in registered power; Rio Grande do Norte, with 259 projects and 9,208 MW; Ceará, with 195 projects and 8,768 MW; and Piauí, with 189 projects and 7,448 MW.

Only 54 projects are registered to participate exclusively in the A-3 auction, with 2,276 MW, and 340 to participate only in the A-4, with 11,918 MW. The remaining 1,447 projects will be able to offer 52,668 MW first in Auction A-3 and, subsequently, will be able to negotiate the remaining power in A-4. The two auctions will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines of Ordinance No. 1/2021 of the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy).
