MME announces multi-billion dollar transmission auctions for 2026 with a focus on renewables.

Two tenders in 2026 are expected to enable 4,3 km of lines and R$ 25 billion in investments.

MME announces multi-billion dollar transmission auctions for 2026 with a focus on renewables.

The federal government, through the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy), announced this Friday (28), the holding of two electricity transmission auctions in 2026.

The expectation is to attract more than R$ 25 billion in private investments, in a strategic move aimed at expanding and modernizing the national electricity infrastructure, with an emphasis on the integration of renewable sources and long-term energy security.

The announcement was made by Minister Alexandre Silveira during a ceremony held by State Grid Brazil Holding (SGBH), a subsidiary of the Chinese state-owned company State Grid Corporation of China, to formalize the acquisition of Concessionária Mantiqueira Energia, which operates 13 transmission lines in Minas Gerais, spanning over 1.300 km.

Auction schedule

According to the minister, the auctions will take place in two separate phases in 2026. The first auction, Scheduled for March 2026, it has a projected investment of R$ 5,7 billion..

The first bidding process will offer 888 kilometers of new transmission lines in 12 Brazilian states: Bahia, Ceará, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Santa Catarina, São Paulo, and Sergipe. The lots are in the final phase of public consultation at Aneel (Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency).

The second auction, scheduled for the second half of 2026, is still under study by EPE and is expected to generate more than R$ 20 billion in projects totaling over 3.500 kilometers of transmission lines. Technical details and the states included are expected to be released in the first months of 2026.
