During the South Summit Brazil, which took place in Porto Alegre last Friday (31), Cláudio Coutinho, president of banrisul, spoke on a topic of economic, social and environmental relevance: the H2V (green hydrogen).

Currently, 84% of the energy matrix in Rio Grande do Sul corresponds to renewable sources and Rio Grande do Sul has the potential to expand its wind and solar farms.

“Note that, to manufacture green hydrogen, it is necessary to have renewable energy, that is, it is a potential in Rio Grande do Sul, which could add up to R$62 billion to the GDP. Banrisul will follow this trend, allowing access to credit lines that promote decarbonization”, said Coutinho.

According to the company, the topic has the full attention of the state government, as H2V is useful in several segments, such as industry, agribusiness, maritime and air transport.

Through the Advancing Sustainability program, R$5 million has already been invested. There is an expectation of generating 41 thousand new jobs by 2040. Furthermore, Europe will be a large consumer of this commodity, which represents an alternative already consolidated in the UN (United Nations) 2030 Agenda.

“Banrisul’s main role is to stimulate the economic and social development of our state. Therefore, we make available to entrepreneurs — who want to make investments in green hydrogen — credit lines compatible with the return on investments”, he highlighted.

“We have access not only to Brazilian market lines, but also to those from BNDES and Finep, which offer different terms and conditions”, highlighted the president.

Banrisul's sustainable agenda

Still in 2023, the company stated that it will launch an agenda of commitments, with macro pillars for the area. The institution was recently classified with the GHG Protocol Gold Seal and established partnerships with sectors of the economy, such as Operation 360 to increase rural productivity.

In addition to the energy transition process, which has already begun and will cover around 500 branches, the company operates a new Data Center. Coutinho also detailed the institutionalization of an exclusive area to lead advances on this topic, with the creation of the Sustainability Management, a sector directly linked to the presidency.

“Internally, we also follow a solid waste management policy and the energy efficiency program, which provides for the replacement of all equipment in the financial institution's refrigeration park within five years”, he emphasized.

For Osvaldo Lobo Pires, Credit Director at Banrisul, the drought is an issue that needs to be addressed with planning and unity across all sectors. “Banrisul is present in all regions, with capillarity. We know the reality, especially of properties in the interior of the State, and we know that there are ways to mitigate the risks”.

“In the case of Banrisul, we have strengthened the credit lines aimed at irrigation crop after crop. Technology is also a great ally and we want to increasingly stimulate the innovative environment in the field”, he concluded.

I don't understand why the energy distributors charge based on what the consumer produces, since the consumer makes all the investment for the purpose of saving money and after installing their plates, their system has to pay or be taxed....when you buy it, I do everything the investment, and I still help supply the network, do I still have to be taxed?????
