The volume of energy traded at BBCE (Brazilian Energy Trading Counter) grew 34.7% in March compared to the same period last year. Compared to February, the increase was 30.5%. In total, 24,885 GWh were traded last month.

According to Felipe Nasciben, director of Products, Communication and Marketing at BBCE, volume was concentrated in a smaller number of operations, which increased the average ticket to 312% compared to March 2022.

“In total, around 25 TWh were negotiated in 1460 contracts. However, with the Difference Settlement Price (PLD) close to the floor, the financial volume was 16% lower than the same month last year”, he explains.

Assets maturing beyond 2024, as occurred in the other months of the year, continue to represent a relevant portion of the volume. As a result, 38.5 % of the volume expires in 2025 and 15.9% of the volume was conventional energy with a fixed price for annual delivery in 2024

With significant increases in January and March, BBCE ended the quarter with a growth of 20.5% in volume compared to the same period in 2022. In total, 75 TWh were negotiated in 5 thousand operations that generated R$ 7 billion. The total financial volume decreased by 25.6%.

Of the company's 11-year history, 1Q2023 was the period in which there was the greatest extension of deadlines. Of the total volume transacted, 57% of the deals had a maturity of more than one year.
