The IDB (Inter-American Development Bank) and IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency) have signed a partnership that will help boost the energy transition in Latin America and the Caribbean. According to the companies, the objective is to work together to improve access to sustainable financing in the region, supporting the creation of market conditions that lead to investments in renewable energy and that facilitate the development of projects. “We are excited to partner with IRENA to advance our region’s transition to a sustainable energy future at a critical time. We are convinced that the post-pandemic recovery must focus on sustainability and green growth”, said Mauricio Claver-Carone, president of the IDB. “Facilitating access to sustainable finance is fundamental to accelerating the global energy transition,” said Francesco La Camera, director general of IRENA.  “Investment in renewable energy needs to double if we are to align with a climate-safe path forward. The IDB is an active investor in the energy transition of Latin America and the Caribbean and I believe that, through this partnership, we can strengthen efforts to put the region at the forefront of the decarbonization agenda”, he added. The IDB and IRENA, for example, have collaborated in the past, coordinating knowledge exchange activities and technical workshops on renewable energy and energy integration.
