BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development) announced this Thursday (26) the purchase of R$ 8,7 million in carbon credit of five companies selected in the Selection of the Public Call for Acquisition of up to R$10 million in Carbon Credits.

Among the 11 proposals that the bank received, developers were selected, together with their respective partners. They are: Biofílica, Solví, Sustainable Carbon, Carbonext and Tembici.

After the selection process, the projects will undergo due diligence that will consider technical and legal assessments to be carried out by BNDES teams.

In March 2022, BNDES launched a public call for the acquisition of carbon credits, in which proponents were invited to participate in a selection process to present technical and commercial proposals related to projects of REDD+ origin (reduction of emissions from deforestation and forest degradation), reforestation and energy, with the purpose of acquiring carbon credits by BNDESPAR.

Bruno Laskowsky, director of Participations, Capital Markets and Indirect Credit at BNDES, states that BNDES, through the unprecedented initiative of acquiring carbon credits, makes an important contribution to promoting the carbon market and reinforces the country's decarbonization culture.

They presented an Amazon rainforest conservation project (REDD+) that covers 94.289 hectares in the municipalities of Machadionho d'Oeste and Cujubum (RO) and also foresees sustainable development actions in the community.

Carbonext Environmental Solutions Technology is developing, together with Copacabana Agropecuária, Leblon Agropecuária, Ipanema Agropecuária and Bela Aliança Agropecuária, a project that foresees forest conservation (REDD+) and social development and biodiversity actions in Bujari (AC), in an area of 20.669 hectares.

Revita Engenharia is working on a project to generate energy from methane in a landfill located in Quatá (SP).

Sustainable Carbon – Projetos Ambientais and Cerâmica Gomes de Mattos propose a project to replace fuel with renewable biomass in the municipality of Crato (CE), which includes social development actions with local communities.

Finally, Tembici Participações, Transportes Sustentáveis and M2 Soluções em Engenharia are working in partnership to provide a shared bicycle service in the cities of São Paulo (SP) and Rio de Janeiro (RJ). The project is classified as a fuel exchange in the transportation matrix.
