Brazil signed, this Tuesday (22), a work plan with the IEA (International Energy Agency) for the 2022-2023 biennium. The agreement – called “Brazil-IEA Work Plan” – provides for national technical participation in the review of the organization's reports on matters related to the energy transition.
The document was signed during a meeting of the MME minister (Ministry of Mines and Energy), Bento Albuquerque, with the executive director of the IEA, Fatih Birol, to exchange views on the international energy scenario and the main trends in the energy transition.
In addition to Brazilian technical participation in reviewing the organization's reports, the agreement also provides for cooperation actions, with an emphasis on training and capacity building and the exchange of statistical data.
According to MME, the partnership with the IEA has “bear fruit on topics of great interest to the Brazilian energy sector, in areas such as energy planning, energy market design (electricity and natural gas), energy security, bioenergy and biofuels, energy efficiency and hydrogen”.
Brazil in Paris
In addition to the meeting with the director of the IEA, minister Bento Albuquerque, participated yesterday (23) and is participating today (24) in the Agency's Ministerial meeting, in Paris. The meeting is attended by around 40 energy ministers from IEA member and associate countries, as well as business leaders from the energy sector.
The central objective is to discuss ways to accelerate the energy transition global agenda for a low-carbon future. The meeting, which takes place at a time marked by volatility in international energy markets, will also be an occasion for discussion and coordination of collective actions, with a view to stabilizing global oil and gas markets.
Linked to OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development), the IEA is one of the main international forums dedicated to energy issues. Brazil is one of the countries associated with the entity.
