Brasol, one of the leading developers, investors, and operators of energy transition infrastructure in Brazil, offers in its portfolio battery energy storage solutions (BESS - Battery Energy Storage System) in an "as a service" model, requiring no investment from the client, which are proving increasingly indispensable for the energy challenges of sectors such as the hotel industry.
“The energy transition is not far removed from the hotel sector. On the contrary, it is already happening and directly influences the segment's competitiveness. Hotels that invest in their own energy storage infrastructure are not only ensuring stability in their operations, but also positioning themselves to attract more demanding clients and investors,” says Diogo Zaverucha, director of the Energy Storage Business Unit at Brasol.
“This scenario is the result of a structural change, in which electricity has ceased to be merely a high-cost item and has come to occupy a strategic position in the operation of hotels and resorts. These establishments need to guarantee climate control and electrical stability for guests and respond to the sustainability demands of the market.”
According to the Booking.com Travel & Sustainability Report 2025, 93% of travelers seek accommodations with clear environmental practices, highlighting what influences their purchasing decisions.
According to the executive, there is a range of unique opportunities, which represent a singular moment for the hotel sector. According to the consulting firm Greener, BESS purchases in the country grew by 89% in 2024 compared to 2023.
In addition to being more sustainable, practical, and environmentally friendly, avoiding the use of diesel-powered generators, batteries offer backup in case of failure and improve the stability of the electrical grid.
They also allow charging during off-peak energy hours and discharging during peak periods, reducing energy costs for those who adopt this technology. "Storage systems strengthen the establishment's reputation, aligning it with the growing demands for sustainability and ESG responsibility," the executive emphasizes.
According to Zaverucha, by integrating clean energy into its business model, the hotel sector is becoming part of a global movement towards sustainable tourism. "The challenge of combining comfort and responsibility defines a new operating standard, in which energy infrastructure becomes as strategic as the hospitality experience itself," he adds.
