A solar energy exceeded the 44 GW of installed power in Brazil, with more than BRL 208,2 billion in investments and about 1,3 million green jobs created since the beginning of its expansion, according to data of ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Energy Association).
Only in first semester this year, there were more than 7 GW activated by the source in the national electrical matrix, adding the large solar plants (centralized generation) and self-generated energy systems on roofs, facades and ground (distributed generation).
Currently, the participation of solar energy is equivalent to 18,9% of the Brazilian electrical matrix. All this volume allowed the sector to also avoid the emission of 53,7 million tons of CO2 in electricity generation
According to ABSOLAR, business in the photovoltaic sector also guaranteed more than R$64 billion in revenue for public coffers.
Na distributed generation, are 30 GW of installed power from the solar source, the equivalent of R$146,7 billion in investments; R$43,7 billion in revenue and more than 902 thousand green jobs accumulated in all five regions of Brazil.
In the segment of centralized generation, large solar plants have more than 14 GW of power in the country, with R$61,5 billion in accumulated investments and more than 429,8 thousand green jobs created.
Rodrigo SauaiaCEO of ABSOLAR, highlights that the protagonism of photovoltaic technology in the Brazilian energy transition contributes tightly for social, economic and environmental development, in all spheres of society.
“In addition to accelerating the decarbonization of economic activities and helping to combat global warming, solar sources play an increasingly strategic role in the competitiveness of productive sectors, relief for the family budget, energy independence and prosperity of nations”, he explains.
Initial projection of 2024 will be exceeded
At the end of last year, the ABSOLAR released a conservative projection of how it should be solar energy sector growth throughout 2024, estimating that the country would have 45 GW at the end of the year.
This represents an increase of more than 25% in relation to the 36 GW that had been installed by December 2023. According to current numbers, the tendency is for the sector to achieve (or even overcome) the initial goal stipulated by the association for the year between the months of August and September.
