The Brazilian multinational food company BRF, the result of the merger between Sadia and Perdigão, announced that it is working to increase the self-production of electrical energy through renewable sources by 50% over the next 10 years.

To this end, the company reported that it has signed an agreement with Banco do Brasil, which will provide R$ 200 million in credit limits to finance investments in the installation of solar panels on farms.

The pilot project foresees initial implementation in a group of pre-defined integrated producers in Santa Catarina and Paraná. In the second stage, the program will be expanded to reach 100% of those integrated.

According to Fábio Stumpf, general director of Agriculture at BRF, the total term of the contracts will be 10 years, with pre-fixed rates and a grace period of six months to start payment.

“BRF is creating a pool of purchases in the market so that the producer has access to equipment with cutting-edge technology, an extended warranty and a lower cost than if they were to buy directly from the supplier”, he highlighted.

According to the company, the idea is to set up this project at the beginning of 2021, with implementation in the first quarter. “The Company is ready for this new journey of sustainable growth”, concluded Stumpft.
