BYD, a manufacturer of electric vehicles and photovoltaic modules, began operations of the first lithium iron phosphate battery factory in the country, located in PIM (Manaus Industrial Complex).
The production line will initially be focused on 100% electric bus chassis, developed in Campinas (SP). In total, R$15 million were invested in the plant, installed in an area of 5 thousand m².
According to BYD, the new factory will have the production capacity of up to a thousand batteries per year. The initial quantity projected to be delivered by November is 272 lithium iron phosphate batteries.
“With our investment, we will also be able to form partnerships with companies interested in enhancing the electrification of their equipment. Our proposal is to popularize and facilitate the electrification of mobility and equipment in the country”, said Tyler Li, president of BYD Brasil.
“We are producing a margin of 28 batteries every two days. The operation is very quick and technical, since here in Manaus we have an entire infrastructure set up and robotic to deliver the batteries faster and more safely”, highlighted Li.
Also according to BYD, the city of São José dos Campos (SP) will be the first to benefit from batteries produced in Brazil. In all, the company will supply 12 22 m articulated buses, with zero pollutant emissions and no noise.
