The Barra do Bugres public prison, located 165 km from the capital of Cuiabá (MT) and which houses approximately 280 inmates, will receive the implementation of a photovoltaic solar energy generation system.

The announcement was made by state deputy Elizeu Nascimento (DC) on July 31st. According to the parliamentarian, R$ 170 thousand of his individual parliamentary amendment quota will be allocated to the installation of the photovoltaic system.

“During my visit to the Barra do Bugres public prison, the director, Oto Rubens Wetterlein, told me about the project, which had been on paper for over 5 years. I immediately offered to allocate the resources to implement the program, which, in addition to making the prison unit energy self-sufficient, generating savings for the public coffers, will also bring other benefits to the society of Mato Grosso and the environment”, explained Elizeu Birth.

“I was pleased with Congressman Elizeu Nascimento's receptivity to our demand, as, with the allocation of this funding, the Barra do Bugres public prison will become the first in the state of Mato Grosso to have solar energy. Furthermore, with the prisoners’ labor, we will be able to produce construction materials, furniture and other objects, with the wood donations we receive”, said Wetterlein, creator of the project.
