Public schools in Santos must gain something new that will promote sustainability and economy. The Chamber of Councilors approved a PL (bill) that provides for educational institutions to use photovoltaic energy.

“We intend to start with school units and then spread to all other public buildings, which have high energy consumption. The use of solar sources will provide financial savings, in addition to producing clean energy and protecting natural resources”, said councilor Geonisio Pereira de Aguiar, known as Boquinha (PL), author of the proposal.

According to the city of Santos, currently, only the Prefeito Paulo Gomes Barbosa Municipal Education Unit has a photovoltaic system. The structure of the building includes panels that allow savings, on average, of 30% on the monthly electricity bill.

If the proposal is approved in the second discussion, the bill will be forwarded, in the coming weeks, to Mayor Paulo Alexandre Barbosa (PSDB) for sanction or veto.

Chamber invests in solar energy

The Santos Chamber is also preparing to join the capture and use of photovoltaic energy. During the ordinary session of the first discussion, the president of the Chamber, Rui de Rosis (PSL), stated that he hopes the implementation will be completed before the end of September. The parliamentarian stated that monthly expenses should reduce from approximately R$ 20 thousand per month to approximately R$ 2 thousand.
