Manufacturer Canadian Solar announced that it was the winner of one of the photovoltaic projects in the A-4 renewable energy auction that took place at the end of June/2019. In its statement, the company said it will build a 51 MW plant in the state of Minas Gerais. In this auction, the approved photovoltaic projects totaled 203,7 MW out of a total of 401,6 MW at an average price of R$67,48/MWh.
The MWh price offered by the company was one of the lowest ever recorded on the international scene: R$73,60/MWh. The company also announced that it will use 130.000 polycrystalline bifacial modules of the BiHiKu model with a power of 400 W.
Construction of the project should only begin in 2021 and be completed by the beginning of 2023. With this project, the manufacturer reached the mark of 1 GW approved in a photovoltaic energy auction in the country.
Part of the modules used will come from its national factory located in Sorocaba, in the state of São Paulo. As a means of encouraging the manufacture of national modules, BNDES and Banco do Nordeste will offer special financing for the project that uses these products.
In total, the photovoltaic projects approved in the A-4 auction represent an investment of R$1,9 billion and are expected to generate around 4500 jobs in Brazil.=
According to the president of Canadian Solar, Dr. Shawn Qu, the company is very proud to be the only one that won projects in all six energy auctions that have already taken place in Brazil. “This shows our long-term commitment to Brazil and to investment models with mixed revenues between the regulated market and the free market,” said Dr. Qu.
