O state of Ceará could receive more than US$30 billion (approximately R$163,6 billion) in investments to build up to 11,8 GW in green hydrogen capacity by 2031.
The calculation, carried out by North American consultancy IXL Center, with the participation of experts from Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology and considers memoranda already signed. The study also points out that this development should double the number of direct and indirect jobs in the port complex.
Currently, the state has six pre-contracts signed, And 37 memoranda of understanding, with Brazilian and international companies that should make up the Ceará Green Hydrogen Hub, at Pecem Complex.
Study carried out by Engie, which mapped local wind and solar potential, indicates that the state could generate enough energy to power more than 23 million homes.
Today, Ceará has a installed capacity of 1.559 MW in 35 projects, while 419 solar parks under construction will add 16.738,3 MW of power.
As for wind projects, the state has 100 wind farms that generate 2.577 MW, with another 72 projects under construction that will total 2.876 MW. In addition, 26 offshore wind projects are awaiting licensing, with the potential to generate 64,9 GW.
“Ceará is fully capable of being the leader in H2V production, for several aspects. We can start with our location close to Europe, with the strategic partnership between the Port of Pecém and Rotterdam, and have a structured ZPE (Processing and Export Zone), which makes the issue of fuel export much easier”, he comments. Marília Brilhante, executive director of Energo Soluções em Energias.
“In addition, the entire structure that has been worked on at the port, with the H2V Hub, which has promised facilities for licensing, obtaining reuse water and storage tanks for the companies that are signing the contracts, all of these are locational technical advantages”, he adds.
She also highlights Ceará's advantage in relation to the structure for transporting green hydrogen for internal consumption.
“For H2 to be green, yes, we need renewable energy. In Ceará we have a lot of sun, a lot of wind and a sea suitable for installing offshore turbines. Ceará, with all its clean energy generation capacity, its excellent location, with the H2V Hub facilities and with the reinforcements of transmission lines promised for the coming years, today is the best state for installing these plants”, adds Marília.
