Since January 1, 2026, all energy distributors in the country have adopted a new format for the identification number of consumer units.

The measure complies with a directive from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), which established the standardization through Normative Resolution No. 1.095/2024 and Dispatch No. 276/2024.

With this, all energy consumers throughout Brazil, both residential and commercial, industrial and rural, will have a new reference number on their electricity bills: a 15-digit sequence that replaces the previous formats used by each utility company.

What changes in practice?

From now on, each consumer unit will be identified by a unique 15-digit code, following this pattern:

  • 10 sequential digits that identify the installation;
  • 3 digits that identify the distributor;
  • Two check digits (guarantee the validity of the number).

Na energy billThis number will be presented with periods and hyphens for easier reading, in the format: 000.000.000.000-00

Why did the electricity account number change in 2026?

According to ANEELThe change applies to all units — including those with suspended or disconnected supply, as long as they have an active contract with the distributor.

What changes for the consumer?

The main change is in the way the consumer unit is identified. This number appears on electricity bills and is required to perform various services, such as:

  • View or pay invoices;
  • Request a new connection or reconnection;
  • Register complaints and service requests;
  • Install distributed generation systems (such as solar power);
  • Migrate to the free energy market.

Furthermore, the new standardization facilitates access for low-income families to Social Electricity TariffThis is because the standardized number is easier to cross-reference with data from the municipalities' Single Registry, allowing for the automatic granting of the benefit.

Direct impact for those who generate their own energy.

For the solar energy market, especially integrators, the change requires attention. The new number must be used in registrations, distributor portals, access to systems such as SGD, billing systems, forms, and digital customer service channels.

Furthermore, the information needs to be correctly passed on to the consumer, who should use it whenever opening a service request, checking their electricity bill, or making any contractual changes with the distributor.

Because the ANEEL Did you make that change?

A ANEEL He highlighted that the main objective is to modernize and integrate the systems of the electricity sector, bringing more efficiency, safety, and agility to consumers and businesses. Among the direct benefits of standardization are:

  • Eliminating errors in databases;
  • Speed in service;
  • Improved traceability of consumption history;
  • Greater ease for solar energy integrators to register their systems;
  • Simplifying the process of migrating to the free energy market.

Is it already in effect?

Yes. Distributors had until December 31, 2025 to adapt to the new regulation. Since then, all electricity bills should include the new identification number, and consumers can already use it for all interactions with the distributor.
