The next few weeks of may must be marked by a great climate contrast in Brazil, with the continuation of heavy rains in the states of the southern region and formation of heat waves in other locationsAccording forecast of Weather.

No Sul of the country, cold fronts are expected, with heavy rains and which must continue to provoke floods and floods, mainly in the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.

Size volume of chuvas can also exceed the reversal capacity of dams, increasing the risk of rupture, since basins such as the Jacuí, Uruguay and other rivers already have ENAs (Affluent Natural Energy) at extreme values.

Furthermore, Climatempo highlights that heavy rains are expected in the region over the next few days, especially in Rio Grande do Sul, where storms generated a scenario of destruction and public calamity.

In this Tuesday (07), all these regions are subject to storms throughout the day, with intense lightning activity and gusts of wind that can vary, on average, between 60 and 80 km/h.

In the areas of the South Coast, South and Campanha, gusts can be in the order of 90km/h during storms and the rain will be more voluminous.

Na Wednesday (8) to extratropical cyclone forms between dawn and early morning, near the coast of Argentina, in the province of Buenos Aires. Throughout the day, this system deepens, moving across the ocean.

This system will not pass over Rio Grande do Sul, but its presence should favor an increase in wind intensity across the region. Furthermore, the phenomenon should give rise to a new cold front that will reinforce instability once again across Rio Grande do Sul, causing the return of rain in the center-north of the state.

Heat and high demand for energy in other regions

In contrast, to other regions of the country the expectation is different: a record heat due to an atmospheric blockage in the Central-West and Southeast regions. This condition should increase not only the temperatures as well as the energy consumption of people from a greater use of fans and air conditioning.

In the region Southeast, It's expected that such an atmospheric blockage inhibit the formation of clouds and rain, causing rapid elevation of temperatures - what should surpass records for the period.

Cities like Rio de Janeiro, for example, which for this time of year have an expected average temperature of 30°C for the month, already record temperatures of 36°C and 37°C.

According to Climatempo, this condition can cause losses to the electricity sector once extreme heat predicted for May should increase energy consumption by 15%, putting pressure on transmission and distribution systems.

“Droughts and other extreme weather events can intensify the problem, affecting energy generation. Hydroelectric plants may suffer from a reduction of up to 30% in reservoir levels, while thermoelectric plants may have to operate at greater capacity, increasing generation costs by up to 10%”, highlights Climatempo.
