Comerc Energia and Neoenergia joined together to invest in shared solar energy generation, a modality in which companies build the plant and distribute the credits to a group of customers.

In total, R$ 500 million will be invested, with each company participating in 50% of equity. Plants will be built in five states: Bahia, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Norte, Pernambuco and the Federal District.

The operation was reported to the CVM (Securities Commission) and is still subject to approval by CADE (Administrative Council for Economic Defense).

According to the companies, if everything goes as planned, all plants should be in operation by the end of the first half of 2025.

The plants fall under the so-called GD 1 (before law 14,300/22), where there is no charge for using the distribution network. “It is worth highlighting that all these projects have the regulatory benefit valid until December 2045, which gives them even more competitive advantages”, says the Comerc statement.

“The complementarity of business and objectives was very great. We, as one of the largest players in the country in Distributed Generation, including shared, and with great expertise in the implementation and operation of assets, are teaming up with one of the largest distributors in the country, with a large customer portfolio, credibility in the market and areas of relevant and strategic concessions for both. In this way, we have a very robust partnership capable of competing with excellence in these states”, says Matheus Nogueira, vice-president of Distributed Generation at Grupo Comerc Energia.

In Brazil, there are 6,686 shared generation plants, totaling 625,832 megawatts of installed power. In terms of number of installations, shared DG grew by 271% in 2022 compared to 2021, there were 2,983 against 803, according to data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).
