O Sicredi (Cooperative Credit System), a financial institution with a presence in all Brazilian states and the Federal District, accounted for in the first four months of the year a total of R$ 882 million in credit for solar energy projects in Brazil.

This is an amount that represents a increase of 58% compared to the same period in 2021, when demand for investment in the sector was R$ 560 million.

Of the total financing granted between January and April this year, half was allocated to companies in the sector, while 33% went to individuals and another 17% went to agribusiness.

According to Sicredi, one of the main reasons explaining the growth in photovoltaic energy projects in the first four months of the year is the work that has been carried out by the institution with installation companies in the sector.

In the institution's assessment, the partnerships signed have enabled the installation financing obtained through Sicredi to be deposited directly into the companies' accounts, facilitating the process for its members.

Another explanation that helps explain the increases would be the PDI (Solar Energy Integrators Development Program), developed in Rio Grande do Sul in partnership with Sebrae/RS and UCS (University of Caxias do Sul), which offers professional qualification in the installation of equipment for partner companies.

A final explanation given by Sicredi to justify the greater volume of credit for solar energy projects involves the creation by Sicredi of a sustainable finance area, dedicated to raising funds for the generation of clean energy in the country.

Created in 2021, the department has already raised more than US$ 120 million with the IFC (International Finance Corporation), a member of the World Bank, focused on meeting the growing demand for credit for the installation of solar energy systems across the planet.
