One short circuit caused by poor installation on one photovoltaic system caused a fire principle and frightened employees and guests of the Hotel Loureiro, in the center of the city of Rio Branco (AC).

According to CBMAC (Military Fire Department of the State of Acre), the occurrence was recorded when a person called for the corporation reporting small explosions in one of hotel floors in the early afternoon of last Monday (17).

A team from the 1st Education, Protection and Fighting Forest/Urban Fire Battalion went to the location, where it was identified that the fire had started in the solar energy system that had been installed in the project.

Before authorities arrived, the flames had already been controlled by the employees themselves, who used a fire extinguisher to contain the fire. The firefighters then carried out the inspection and awaited the arrival of the technician from the company responsible for installing the solar energy system.

According to Sílvio César Ferreira, an electrical technician with experience in the photovoltaic sector, the fire in the hotel could have been avoided if the installation company had adopted the basic principles of good practice in electrical installation.

“In cases like this, it is clear that one or more of these good practices was not done correctly, such as using the correct cables and connectors for photovoltaic energy and their respective protections, such as circuit breakers and fuses,” he said.

In turn, CBMAC reinforced that the Photovoltaic systems are designed to be completely safe and that problems like the one that occurred at the hotel are directly related to the incorrect installation of the equipment.

The recommendation given by the corporation is for consumers seek to make agreements with accredited companies and who have credibility in the market. Find out how to hire a company in the solar energy sector safely by clicking here.
