The accelerated growth of solar energy in Brazil has also brought new challenges related to the safety of installations.

Among the main concerns are fires in photovoltaic systems, which can compromise not only the equipment, but the entire generation structure.

Professionals point out that many of these incidents originate from installation errors, such as poorly executed connections or the use of low-quality components.

These conditions increase the risk of excessive heating and the formation of electric arcs, phenomena that, in direct current, are more intense and more difficult to extinguish.

Good practices and technical standards are the key to safety

Douglas Lara, electronics engineer and Applications Engineering coordinator at CLAMPER, emphasizes that adopting Brazilian technical standards is essential to ensuring the safety and longevity of solar systems.

“The ABNT NBR 16690 and ABNT NBR 5410 standards establish strict criteria for the sizing and installation of photovoltaic systems, including the mandatory use of DPS and the correct separation of circuits,” he comments.

Yasmim Brito, electrical engineer and business manager at CLAMPER, also emphasized the importance of viewing safety not only as a preventative measure, but as a strategy to ensure the reliability and financial return of solar projects.

"These standards are references for professionals in the field and ensure that facilities follow safety standards, minimizing the chances of technical failures and fire risks," he points out.

According to the two engineers, the installation of devices such as the CLAMPER Solar SB String Box, which offers extra protection to photovoltaic systems, can increase the durability of equipment and prevent damage caused by electrical surges, according to the manufacturer.

In line with this need to guarantee the quality and safety of photovoltaic installations, the manufacturer has launched an e-book on the subject.

Electrical surges

Recently, the Canal Solar highlighted a topic that deserves more attention: the protection of photovoltaic systems against electrical surges.

These events, often overlooked, can be one of the main causes of equipment failures, compromising not only their useful life but also the safety of the facilities.

Without proper protection, the damage can be irreversible, leaving systems vulnerable and putting the proper functioning of structures at risk.

School subjects, therefore, draws attention to the need for preventive measures to ensure the safe and efficient operation of these facilities.
