EDP, a company that operates in all segments of the Brazilian electricity sector, announced the purchase of 16 new GD (distributed generation) solar plants for R$218 million.
The acquisition, signed with Grupo Tangipar, involves projects in the states of Bahia, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná, with a total installed capacity of 44,3 MWp. The transaction awaits approval from Cade (Administrative Council for Economic Defense) for completion.
With the acquisition, EDP expands its operations in the distributed solar generation segment, also entering the Mato Grosso market. The company has an ambitious goal of reaching 500 MWp in installed capacity by 2026, with planned annual investments of R$600 million.
With the addition of these new plants, EDP's portfolio in Brazil will now include 106 solar plants, totaling a capacity of 302,3 MWp. EDP currently operates 76 plants (209 MWp) and has another 14 (49 MWp) under construction or awaiting energization.
Carlos Andrade, Vice President of Customer Solutions at EDP in South America, highlighted the importance of expanding distributed generation in the context of the energy transition.
“Distributed solar generation represents a huge opportunity to accelerate the energy transition together with our customers. More than expanding our operations and capacity in renewable sources to become 100% green by 2030, we want to make solar energy more accessible to a wide range of consumers,” said the executive.
Details of acquired assets
The operation includes five plants already completed and 11 under construction, with completion scheduled for 2025. The installed capacity is distributed as follows:
- 10,9 MWp in Bahia;
- 12,5 MWp in Mato Grosso;
- 12,9 MWp in Mato Grosso do Sul, and;
- 7,7 MWp in Paraná.
According to EDP, such plants have the potential to serve low-voltage customers, both in shared and dedicated distributed generation models.
