The Brazilian electricity grid has just broken a new record, 7 GW de installed plants this year. According to the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), the expansion of electricity supply reached 7.096,55 MW on August 31 with the entry into operation of 203 plants.
The plants that began operating this year are installed in 15 states across the country. The champion states are Bahia (1.902,80 MW), Rio Grande do Norte (1.699,95 MW) and Minas Gerais (1.345,93 MW).
Bahia and Minas Gerais were the champion states in expanding supply in August. Bahia registered 16 new plants and increased the energy supply by 299,30 MW. Minas Gerais had six plants coming into operation and added 161,05 MW to the electricity matrix.
Total number of plants that started operating in August and total installed capacity
- 93 photovoltaic solar plants, with 3.558,04 MW;
- 90 wind farms with 3.057,20 MW;
- 13 thermoelectric plants with 441,52 MW;
- 5 small hydroelectric plants with 35,19 MW;
- 2 hydroelectric generating plants (4,60 MW).
August saw an increase of 570 MW, as 19 wind farms (349,50 MW), six photovoltaic solar plants (205,50 MW), a small hydroelectric plant (14,20 MW) and a hydroelectric generating plant (1,60 MW) came into operation.

Total capacity is 204,8 GW
On September 3, Brazil had 204.844,1 MW of inspected power, according to data from SIGA (Generation Information System ANEEL) updated daily with data on plants in operation and projects granted under construction. Of this total in operation, according to SIGA, 84,78% of the plants are considered renewable.
