A ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) approved, last Tuesday (14), the Annual Tariff Adjustment of the distributors EDP São Paulo and Neoenergia Brasília, responsible for the supply of energy in São Paulo and the Federal District. The new tariffs come into effect on October 23 and 22, respectively.

In the case of EDP São Paulo, the average increase will be 16,78% for consumers: 14,67% for residential, 15,44% for low-voltage, and 19,80% for high-voltage. The distributor serves approximately 2,2 million consumer units in 28 municipalities across the state.

Neoenergia Brasília will see an average adjustment of 11,93%, with 10,56% for residential consumers, 11,01% for low-voltage consumers, and 14,47% for high-voltage consumers. The utility is responsible for serving 1,19 million consumer units in the federal capital.

According to ANEEL, the adjustments primarily reflect costs related to sector charges, energy transportation, and financial components determined in the tariff process. "The indexes consider the economic and financial balance of the distributors and the recovery of costs from the last cycle," the Agency highlighted in a statement.

Tariff review vs. annual adjustment

A ANEEL explains that there are two main types of tariff updates: RTP (Periodic Tariff Review) and RTA (Annual Tariff Adjustment).

The RTP defines the efficient cost of distribution, quality targets, and losses, in addition to the X factor, which aims to stimulate productivity gains. The RTA, applied in years without a review, is a simpler process. It updates the so-called "Portion B" by inflation (IGP-M or IPCA) minus the X factor, in addition to passing on purchasing, transmission, and sectoral charges.
