With the aim of accelerating the reduction of CO2 in France, the president Emmanuel Macron announced a new climate protection plan that includes measures such as greater production of heat pumps and the feasibility of electric cars for the population.
Electric cars from 100 euros per month
To accelerate the CO2 reduction process in the country, France will create a social leasing program that exclusively privileges small electric cars manufactured in Europe, facilitating the population's access to vehicles.
From 2024 onwards, people with proven lower income will be able to take part in the access program that will allow them to lease an electric vehicle with installments of just 100 euros per month. In other words, citizens with an income of less than or equal to 14,089 euros per year, which corresponds to around 100 thousand people in France.
So far, the forecast is that the leasing lasts for a maximum of five years, with a limit of 10,000 to 15,000 kilometers per year. Although the offer appears to be affordable, the government warns that people benefiting from electric car leasing will have to pay for expenses linked to the car, such as maintenance, recharging or insurance.
When will the social program be available?
The government announced that, from November, cars will be available for pre-booking on the platforms of car rental companies and manufacturers.
The first deliveries are expected to take place in early 2024, when the first cars are available. According to Macron, “a few tens of thousands of models” will be made available. A The goal is that by the year 2027, the country reaches a million electric cars produced.
Encouraging the use of public transport
As part of France's Agenda 2030 measures, Paris aims to encourage the transition from car use to public transport. The country will implement regional trains in 13 metropolitan areas. This type of transport system is already used in the city of Strasbourg.
One million heat pumps by 2027
Following Germany's example, France intends to switch from using gas heaters to implementing heat pumps. To achieve this goal, bomb production must triple over the next four years.
The country must train and train around 30,000 people to carry out the installations, Macron announced. By 2027, one million heat pumps are expected to be produced per year.
The climate protection plan aims to make the country less independent of fossil fuels and, consequently, achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda. The “green budget” already includes an investment of 40 billion euros next year alone.
