The Portuguese EDP, through EDP Smart, plans to triple investments in photovoltaic energy in Brazil, going from R$ 100 million to R$ 300 million annually. The company already has 29 MWp of installed capacity in the country and 59 MWp in projects sold.
“If there is a place in the world with potential for growth in solar energy, it is Brazil. We have an unparalleled competitive advantage”, said Carlos Andrade, vice president of Strategy and Business Development at EDP.
“We are going to invest in centralized generation too. However, we are not interested in offering energy to the system as a whole, but rather to the end customer, such as commerce, industry and together with EDP Renováveis”, commented Andrade.
For the B2B (Business-to-Business) segment, the company seeks long-term contracts, between 10 and 15 years. “It is important to establish a long-term relationship with our customers”, explained the executive.
According to Rodrigo Sauaia, CEO of ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy), the technology for producing energy through the conversion of solar irradiation is a “revolution” with no return.
Brazil currently has 6.4 GW of installed solar energy capacity, accumulating more than R$ 33.1 billion in investments and more than 190 thousand jobs created.
According to ABSOLAR, the country occupies the 16th position in the world ranking for the use of solar energy.
