A FFI (Fortescue Future Industries), an Australian renewable green energy developer, and Enel Green Power announced, this Friday (04), that they will form a partnership to explore co-development of the value chain of H2V (green hydrogen), with an initial focus on Latin America and Australia.
Both share a common vision about the fundamental role of H2V in decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors, such as fertilizers, other chemicals, steel manufacturing, transportation and aviation, where hydrogen is used as a feedstock or to generate high-temperature heat, and where reducing CO2 emissions with electrification is not possible or is more complex .
According to the companies, the collaboration aims to make the cost-competitive green hydrogen relative to fossil fuel-based alternatives during this decade.
“We firmly believe that in the near future the H2V can play a strategic role in decarbonization of global energy systems, complementing direct electrification”, said Salvatore Bernabei, CEO of Enel Green Power.
“This collaboration with a partner like FFI fully fits into Enel's hydrogen strategy to reduce the cost of producing green hydrogen, through the expansion of technology and innovative solutions”, he highlighted.
For Mark Hutchinson, CEO of Fortescue Future Industries, this announcement comes at a critical time in energy. “As winter approaches and energy costs continue to skyrocket, competitive green energy costs have never been more necessary.”

The announcement of this partnership will support FFI and Enel in their goals of not only diversifying future energy supplies and increasing energy security, but also helping the world in its fight to reduce emissions and combat climate change.
This agreement, according to the companies, intends to establish a structure for FFI and Enel Green Power to identify and evaluate possible green hydrogen/ammonia projects.
