Enel São Paulo reported, on Monday morning (15), that the state's electricity network "returned to normal," with the restoration of supply to customers affected by the extratropical cyclone recorded last week, which registered winds of almost 100 km/h.
Despite the announcement, the utility company's interactive panel indicates that 62.247 customers remain without power, which corresponds to approximately 0,73% of the total units served by Enel SP.
"At this time, technicians from the distributor are in the field addressing incidents reported after the weather event, which represent approximately 0,4% of customers in the São Paulo Metropolitan Region," the company said in a statement.
In total, approximately 2,2 million properties were left without power due to the storm. In some cases, power was only fully restored this Monday, five days after the event.
In the face of yet another major blackout, the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) released a statement affirming that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has ordered "absolute rigor" in monitoring the quality of electricity distribution services.
The incident reignites the debate about Enel São Paulo's ability to meet the regulatory parameters required to provide an essential service. In recent years, prolonged power outages have become a recurring problem in different regions served by the utility company in the state.
The company is in the process of renewing its concession early for another 30 years, the current term of which expires in 2028. However, the MPTCU (Public Prosecutor's Office attached to the Federal Court of Accounts) requested to ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) the suspension of the process.
