A ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) released 318,34 MW for commercial operation in October 2020, of which 147,28 MW (46%) came from wind generation and 95,68 MW (30%) from solar energy. The other 75,38 MW (24%) came from thermal and hydroelectric sources.
Until October this year, 3.763,61 MW had already been released in 18 Brazilian states. In other words, more than half of the federative units in the country gained at least one plant in 2020.
Also according to ANEEL, last month Paraná, Rio de Janeiro and Tocantins had their first commercial operations this year.
Among the states, the highlight was Rio Grande do Norte, which obtained 101,08 MW of added power in October. This is 32% of the total generation capacity added to Brazil in the month.
The agency also pointed out that Piauí had a jump in installed capacity in the month, adding another 91,68 MW. Only the São Gonçalo 5 plant, with 18 generating units delivered, increased power in the state by 50 MW.
Capacity installed
According to ANEEL, Brazil reached, in October, an installed capacity of 173.501,9 MW of inspected power. Of this total, 74,76% of the plants are driven by sources considered sustainable.
