Copel is carrying out the reconstruction of power service connections to properties in Rio Bonito do Iguaçu, a municipality in Paraná state that was hit by an "F4" class tornado on November 7th. The services, which are normally paid for by the consumers themselves, are being performed free of charge.
Field teams mapped the city's units that were cleared by the State Civil Defense. These actions are partly funded by resources from the PEE (Energy Efficiency Program), coordinated by... ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).
By last week, more than 75% of the local distribution infrastructure had already been restored. The company also suspended collection actions for electricity bills for a period of three months.
R$ 6,5 million in aid
Engie Brasil has also launched an action plan to support the communities of Rio Bonito do Iguaçu. The initiative is structured around three pillars: assistance, restoration, and regional reconstruction.
The plan aims to provide emergency support to the population and help accelerate the recovery of the affected areas.
The measures were defined after discussions with Civil Defense, city halls, and other competent bodies. The company requested that... ANEEL Approval to advance the Financial Compensation for the Use of Water Resources (CFURH), an amount paid by the power plants to the municipality.
The estimated value of this advance payment is R$ 6,5 million, an amount that can be directed towards the recovery of the affected areas.
Engie is also mobilizing local partners to strengthen the solidarity network. Teams from the Salto Osório and Salto Santiago hydroelectric plants are leading the actions, together with local partners.
During the reconstruction phase, Engie is working with the "Partnerships for Good" program, which brings together more than 80 companies from different sectors. This collaborative effort aims to assist in the renovation and reconstruction plans for homes, community centers, and schools that were affected by the tornado.
Engie reported that its own assets were not impacted and remain fully operational. The damage to the transmission areas was material and is being repaired by technical teams.
