The MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) reported, this Thursday (18), that Brazil ended 2025 with significant results in the Existing Energy Auctions A-1, A-2 and A-3, held in November.

Together, the auctions generated R$ 6,48 billion in electricity supply contracts for the period between 2026 and 2029 and are expected to generate an estimated savings of R$ 1,18 billion for consumers.

Focused on the sale of energy from power plants already in operation, existing energy auctions have the main objective of guaranteeing the supply to distributors and reinforcing the reliability of the SIN (National Interconnected System).

All contracts signed by the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) were in the "quantity" modality, in which agents offer different volumes of energy at a pre-established price. In this model, competition occurs based on the contracted quantity, unlike traditional auctions, where the volume is fixed and the price varies.

Results of the competitions

In Auction A-1, energy was contracted at an average price of R$ 205,74/MWh, which represented a discount of 26,52% compared to the ceiling price of R$ 280/MWh.

In total, 600,40 MW average, equivalent to more than 10,5 million MWh, were contracted for supply between 2026 and 2027. This resulted in an estimated savings of R$ 781,12 million for consumers.

In the A-2 Auction, intended for supply between 2027 and 2028, the average price was R$ 205,40/MWh, with a discount of 14,42%. The auction contracted an average of 631,40 MW and provided an additional savings of R$ 383,30 million.

Auction A-3, in turn, recorded an average price of R$ 212,88/MWh, with a more moderate discount of 0,99%. An average of 546,80 MW was contracted for supply between 2028 and 2029, resulting in an estimated savings of R$ 20,36 million.
