About 1,2 companies in the solar energy sector already closed their doors on Minas Gerais since the cemig (Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais) began to disapprove connection requests for distributed micro and mini generation projects in its concession area.
The data is part of a study carried out by FMGD (Distributed Generation Mining Front). In all, more than 12 thousand people lost their jobs no state.
In a statement posted on social media, the entity alleges that Cemig has systematically denied new photovoltaic installations on the roofs of mining properties and prevented citizens from enjoying the benefits of renewable sources.
Will the new resolution on flow reversal halt the market?
“Solar energy represents a crucial opportunity for miners to reduce their electricity costs. With the savings generated by the use of solar energy, families could direct resources to essential areas such as health and education”, highlighted the FMGD.
However, according to the entity, the performance of the Cemig has made it difficult to carry out these installations. “It is urgent that there is an effective intervention to reverse this situation, ensuring that miners can enjoy the benefits of solar energy and, thus, improve their quality of life.”

Flow reversal
Since regulation of Law 14.300 / 2022, through 1.059 Resolution, ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) has rreceived a series of questions from companies and associations in the solar energy sector on distributors' activities of electrical energy, with Cemig being one of the main ones.
All this occurs because the publication of the document granted concessionaires of electrical energy to possibility of denying connection requests for photovoltaic systems under the allegation of risk of network overload.
However, to be able to do this, Distributors are required to carry out studies and send technical justifications to their customers, in order to inform why the connection request was rejected and what changes must be made to adapt the project.
However, according to FMGD, This is something that has not been occurring in Cemig's concession area. In February of this year, directors of ANEEL said openly, in public, that distributors not only are they not complying with the provisions of regulation 1.059 and Law 14.300/2022, but also are ignoring the determinations of their own ANEEL.
What does Cemig say?
Wanted by the report, the Cemig stated that it “fully complies with current legislation About the subject" and that DG connections are “made following Aneel regulations”.
The company highlighted that “if a flow reversal is found, Aneel determines the adoption of specific procedures, for the benefit of all energy consumers, which is followed by Cemig”, it pointed out in a note.
The distributor also highlighted that Minas Gerais reached the mark of 8 GW of connected solar energy, whether through centralized or distributed generation and claimed that such numbers show “the effort of Cemig, which is responsible for connecting all this energy to the system and distributing to consumers.”
Regarding GD, Cemig also said that the sector has received a series of incentives over the last few years. “Since 2018, Cemig has connected more than 270 thousand DG units, also a record in the country, and has made investments to make these connections viable. Cemig continues to make the largest investments in its history, which contribute to the connection of new solar energy projects in Minas Gerais”, concluded the company.

My company, until 10/07/2024, had exactly 71% of “rejections” of projects due to Flow reversal, only in the year 2024.
CEMIG is achieving what it wants, which is to make Solar Photovoltaic Energy companies in Minas impossible and bankrupt.
For some years, we had 18 employees working with us, today we only have 4 (four) and there is no service for the remaining 4 during the entire period.
My company “has not yet closed”, we will continue until the end of 2024, but if the situation does not improve, we will close an activity that we have MANY clients, MANY contacts, MANY orders and we will close a “successful” business that was/is support for many families, which brought sustainability and financial savings to hundreds of people.
We have a feeling of “revolt” with CEMIG and with the bodies that are “on the side”, only of large companies, connecting Giant plants and leaving small companies, which generally work with plants of up to 75KW, without access to DG.

The truth is that we have no one to supervise Cemig!! They do not provide any study showing the time and day of the inversion!! Just a ridiculous and lying graphic!! A real lobby.

I see this fact as a double-edged sword, it is clear that the concessionaires would appeal using loopholes in the resolutions, given the fact that they charge a fee “for the use of the sun”, producing their own energy, it was established that we must pay a fee minimum consumption for the dealership, obvious otherwise who would it sell to?
Now the concessionaire is offering to sell photovoltaic plants under a quota system and making installation in homes difficult to force people to buy from them, removing what we can say from competition. It's a shame that we don't have freedom of choice when it comes to choosing who will supply us with energy, it looks like this will be a battle of the titans and it looks like if there is no government intervention, "unlikely", everything will continue as before.
Brazil needs to be reported to international bodies because it participates in agreements (since Eco 92) with these countries to reduce carbon emissions and does not comply with them. Brazil lies internationally when it says it is a green country that invests in clean energy technology.

I cannot understand CEMIG's attitude. If there is no way to release new GD connections with the claim of overloading the network, then there is no reason to increase the price of energy and change the flag from Green to YELLOW, since the networks have excess energy. I made the investment to be able to increase my production, and now I have spent without being able to and I am unable to increase production.
I'm from Araguari, MG. My project has been ready to be connected for almost 2 years. I spent $500.000,00 on assembling a GD... I've already paid the first installment of $153.000,00, which had a one-year grace period, and the second installment is due in another six months, and to this day, CEMIG hasn't called me and I'm still paying an average of $30.000,00 per month for energy. Let's see how far this goes?!?!

Boy! Install a small gasoline generator just to activate the inverters and generate it off-grid during sunny hours, with the Cemig circuit breaker disconnected. At least you save a little on your electricity bill until Cemig authorizes the connection.

The flow reversal situation repeats itself every day...I have been an integrator for over 6 years and I have 2 plants set up residentially without being able to operate...as Cemig authorized the operation of one from 17pm to 5am and the other from 13pm to 9 am and not being able to do it on Saturday and Sunday...that's absurd.
