A solar energy has been increasingly consolidating itself as one of the main sources of generation in Brazil. This month, the modality reached another symbolic milestone in the country: 1 million systems installed in the distributed micro and mini generation segment, according to data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

Currently, Among renewables, solar is the fastest growing in the country and, an example of this, is precisely the number of installations that have been counted: more than 463 thousand in the last 12 months, almost half of the current numbers, according to ANEEL.

In the first five months of 2022 alone, there were just over 171 thousand systems connected to the distribution network – a volume 30% greater than the approximately 132 thousand systems registered in the same period in 2021.

Currently, São Paulo is the state with the largest number of solar energy systems, with more than 163,6 thousand, followed by Minas Gerais (158,3 thousand) and Rio Grande do Sul (134,5 thousand). The other locations have less than 52 thousand connections each.

Among the consumption classes, residential is the one with the largest number of systems: 778,2 thousand. On average, for every 100 installations, at least 77 belong to the modality.

Next, photovoltaic systems installed in commercial establishments (123,7 thousand), rural properties (77,1 thousand), industries (18,7 thousand) and those under public responsibility (2,8 thousand) appear.

optimistic forecasts

Earlier this month, an international study published in Munich, Germany, pointed out that solar energy already exceeds the 1 TW mark of installed power worldwide.

According to “Global Market Outlook for Solar Power 2022-2026”, the main market report for the global solar photovoltaic sector, Brazil, the leading country in solar energy in Latin America, is expected to become one of the main markets in the world in the coming years, reaching 54 gigawatts (GW) of total solar capacity by 2026.

The annual report points out that, despite the unprecedented impacts caused by the Covid-19 pandemic in the world, the installed capacity of the source has more than doubled on the planet in the last three years.

According to the report, within four years solar will possibly surpass the 2 TW mark, which will represent double the electricity generation capacity of France and Germany combined.

“Since 2012, the solar sector has brought to the country more than R$82,1 billion in investments and accumulated more than 459 thousand new jobs, in addition to avoiding the emission of 22 million tons of CO2 in electricity generation. This is just the beginning, given that this clean, sustainable and affordable technology still has immense potential to advance in Brazil”, explains Rodrigo Sauaia, CEO of ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association).
