O GECEX (Executive Management Committee of the Chamber of Foreign Commerce) published, last Friday (18), the Resolution No. 512/2023 – repealing the provisions of Ordinances ME 309/2019 and ME 324/2019 and bringing new features to obtain ex-tariffs in Brazil.
A new resolution is already in force and the document encompasses changes for Brazilians who, from now on, seek to request procedures such as revocations, concessions, renewals and changes regarding ex-tariffs.
Wladimir Janousek, executive director at JCS Consultoria e Serviços, assesses that the changes restored aspects that aim to favor the national industry in the comparative analysis processes between imported goods and those manufactured in the country.
“Any request for a new ex-tariff, change or revocation of ex-tariffs will follow the provisions of the new ordinance, which ended up being more beneficial to national equipment due to the change in the previously existing rule, which took into account the analysis of performance and productivity parameters and which have now been dropped. Therefore, national equipment only needs to fulfill the same basic function as imported equipment,” explains the professional.
The ex-tariff regime basically consists of a mechanism for temporarily reducing the import tax rate for products not manufactured in the country. In recent years, a series of exemptions have been granted to solar energy equipment for the domestic market.
