The MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) wants, within 20 days, to present to the TCU (Federal Audit Court) the report with the conditions of the process of renewing electricity distribution concessions.
The deadline for sending contributions to Public Consultation 152/2023 was last Wednesday (26). Initially, the public consultation would close on the 24th, but due to systemic instabilities the deadline was extended. 44 manifestations were sent.
“The ministry has the duty to compile these contributions and to respond to contributions that are in synergy with the TCU. I am in permanent dialogue with TCU. I want to have this report completed next week and, at the latest, in 15 to 20 days, deliver this fundamental process to improve the quality of distribution service in Brazil for final analysis”, said Alexandre Silveira, Minister of Mines and Energy .
Silveira met with businesspeople last Thursday (27) at an event called Conexão MME Investidores, in São Paulo. He spoke to journalists after the event.
The government is preparing the conditions that will guide the process of extending 20 energy distribution concessions with contracts expiring between 2025 and 2031. The first expiring concessions are from EDP Espírito Santo (2025), Light and Enel RJ (2026). These three have already asked for their contracts to be renewed.
