A Huawei DigitalPower announced the launch of the new LUNA2000-241-2S1, a 241 kWh battery energy storage system (BESS) developed for commercial and industrial applications.

The system is geared towards applications such as demand reduction, energy backup, microgrids, and off-grid operations. The new BESS was developed to meet different consumption scenarios in sectors such as agribusiness, hospitality, retail, industry, and remote operations.

The launch reinforces Huawei's presence in the energy storage market, a segment in which the company already has over 40 GWh deployed globally in the commercial and industrial sectors.

In Brazil, Huawei has a strategic partnership with HDT, A company specializing in energy solutions and technological infrastructure, working to expand Digital Power solutions in the country, supporting projects in energy storage, solar energy, data centers, and critical infrastructure for different market segments.

“At HDT, we see energy storage as a strategic element to increase the competitiveness and energy resilience of Brazilian companies. The launch of Huawei's new 241 kWh BESS represents an important advance in energy density, operational efficiency, and intelligence applied to energy management, expanding the possibilities for commercial and industrial projects in different sectors of the economy,” says Guilherme Prym, BESS Director at HDT.

“The main difference and improvement we have today from the 215 kWh model to the 241 kWh model is the energy density. Today, within the same cabinet where I could fit 215 kWh, I am now fitting 241 kWh,” says Henrique Vieira, solutions manager at Huawei.

Huawei also highlights that the new system expands storage capacity while maintaining the same physical space as the previous generation.

Among the main differentiators presented by the company are an energy cycle efficiency of 91,3%, operation with 100% discharge depth, a hybrid liquid cooling and air conditioning system, and a backup response time of up to 20 milliseconds.

The solution also features integrated artificial intelligence for operational monitoring and prediction of potential failures, as well as a modular architecture that allows for future expansion as needed by operations.

“When we talk about energy storage, we're not just talking about the initial price of BESS, but also about degradation, system efficiency, and quality. When you put all of that down on paper, you see that it's not just a price war, but also a quality war,” adds Henrique Vieira.

Applications, security and global strategy

Huawei also states that the solution can be applied to both grid-connected projects and stand-alone operations, helping companies reduce electricity costs, improve operational stability, and increase energy resilience.

Among the projects already implemented by the company in Brazil are applications in hotels, agricultural irrigation systems, hybrid microgrids, and commercial operations aimed at reducing demand during peak hours.

In terms of safety, the system features metal compartments resistant to high temperatures, thermal insulation between cells, and exhaust mechanisms designed to prevent the spread of fire.

During large-scale international safety tests, the solution demonstrated thermal containment capabilities without spreading the fire to adjacent systems. Huawei also highlights its continuous investment in research and development as one of the cornerstones of the solution.

Currently, around 20% of the company's global revenue is allocated to this area, a strategy that supports the development of technologies focused on operational efficiency and digitalization of the electricity sector.

With the launch of the BESS 241 kWh, Huawei reinforces its expansion strategy in the Digital Power segment in Brazil and bets on the advancement of smart storage as a key component to support companies in the energy transition and in building more efficient, sustainable and resilient operations.
