Two guesthouses on Ilha do Mel, located at the mouth of Paranaguá Bay, in the state of Paraná, will invest in photovoltaic installations. The systems will be installed at the Ephira and Chalés do Laurindo guesthouses.

The project aims to provide autonomy and savings on electricity bills for establishments.

The project integrates Quad Hybrid model inverters, technology developed by NHS. According to the manufacturer, this is the first hybrid inverter developed and produced in Brazil.

According to the company, in addition to offering clean energy, the installation also guarantees autonomy so that the services offered to inn guests are not compromised in cases of power outages.

At Pousada Chalés do Laurindo, there is an 85% reduction in monthly energy costs during high season. The installation integrates a single-phase 5 kW Quad inverter, 14 550 W panels and a storage system with 20 58 Ah batteries.

At Ephira, a single-phase Quad 3 kW inverter, 8 460 Wp panels and a storage system with 12 18 Ah batteries were installed.

In both installations, the battery banks were sized to support essential loads for up to 3 hours.

“I believe we need to have a plan B in cases of power outages and, instead of purchasing a generator, we opt for clean energy. Now, when the power goes out, guests only notice it in the neighborhood, as here we still have access to Wi-Fi and hot showers”, comments Laurindo Silva, owner of the Chalés do Laurindo guesthouse.

For Lauro José da Silva, owner of Pousada Ephira, the solution is an alternative to maintaining guest comfort and preventing waste caused by a lack of energy.

“We have already had many losses and fires of equipment, and as our inn has several devices, this investment is a way to be safer and more protected”, says Silva.

According to Danilo Alvarez, engineer at Arrebol Engenharia — the NHS Solar integrator company responsible for the project —, the Quad Híbrido is a sustainable alternative to the diesel generator.

“The technology meets Ilha do Mel’s philosophy of sustainable tourism, in addition to providing other benefits, such as economy and autonomy”, says Alvarez.
