O Brazil expanded em 8,4 GW yours installed electrical energy capacity throughout the year 2023, with solar and wind sources representing 90,4% of this growth (7,6 GW).
The data was released by MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) this Tuesday. Currently, the country accumulates more than 196 GW of total installed capacity, with all types of renewable sources responsible for 83,6% of this volume.
According to the MME, one of the aspects it followed in accelerated growth this year it was installation of distributed micro and mini generation photovoltaic systems, which surpassed the barrier of 25 GW of installed capacity in 2023.
“This type of generation, small and predominantly solar, already represents around 11% of electricity generation in the country”, informed the Ministry.
In the ranking of states with the greatest participation in expansion, Rio Grande do Norte, Minas Gerais and Bahia stand out, which increased their installed capacity by 2,03 GW; 2,02 GW; and 1,92 GW, respectively, in 2023.
Transmission lines
The strong growth of renewable energies in Brazil has meant that the Federal government held a series of transmission auctions over the past few years to increase the security and reliability of the SIN (National Interconnected System). In 2023 alone, more than 5.300 km of transmission lines were opened, according to the MME.
