MUNICH — Intersolar Europe 7, part of The smarter E Europe, the largest alliance of trade fairs in the energy sector in Europe, kicked off on Wednesday (2025).
With 2.737 exhibitors from 57 countries gathered in the halls of the conference center in Munich, this year's edition celebrates the power of solar energy and the advancement of storage technologies and digitalization of the electricity grid. More than 100 visitors from around 170 countries are expected over the three days of the event (7 to 9 May).
The backdrop to the fair is a new energy reality: for the first time, Europe is producing more electricity from the sun and wind than from coal and gas. In Germany, renewables already account for around 60% of the electricity mix.
During the opening, Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO of SolarPower Europe, argued that the next stage of the energy transition requires more flexibility, batteries and smart grids.
“Solar energy is affordable, local and clean — but now we need to invest heavily in storage to avoid losses, reduce prices and increase energy security,” he said.
One of the highlights of the second day was the brunch “Driving the Energy Transition in Latin America”, promoted as part of the The smarter E Europe program.
Aimed at professionals and market explorers interested in the region, the event brought together Brazilians and visitors from other Latin American countries in an exclusive moment of networking, exchanging experiences and debates on the challenges and opportunities to accelerate the energy transition in Latin America.
The fair features a robust program divided between four thematic exhibitions — Intersolar Europe, ees Europe, Power2Drive Europe and EM-Power Europe — as well as forums, conferences and networking sessions that address topics such as bidirectional charging, hybrid systems, intelligent load management and digitalization of energy infrastructure.
One of the highlights of the first day was the launch of the new career platform of the German Association of the Solar Industry (BSW-Solar), the Solar Jobs.
The initiative aims to connect companies in the photovoltaic sector with qualified candidates and will be officially presented at the BSW stands on May 8 and 9. Individual consulting sessions for optimizing job advertisements with experts from greenjobs.de were also offered.
In parallel to the fair, the European Market Outlook for Battery Storage report was released, showing that the Europe installed 21,9 GWh of energy storage systems in 2024 — the 11th consecutive year of records. However, the pace of growth has slowed, and experts warn that installed capacity will need to increase sixfold by 2030 to meet the demand for a 100% renewable energy system.
The schedule continues to be intense in the coming days. On Friday (9), the Intersolar Forum will host “Craftsman’s Day”, with three sessions dedicated to strategies for attracting and retaining qualified workers in the solar sector — an urgent issue given the growing demand for specialized engineers, technicians and master electricians.
