Thirteen large-scale solar plants went into operation in January

Photovoltaic sources led the expansion of the electricity matrix in January, adding 567,2 MW of installed capacity

A ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) released this Friday (07) a forecast for the expansion of brazilian electrical matrix for the year 2025.

The expectation is that the energy supply will be increased by 9,95 GW of installed power, a number close to the record seen in 2024 (10,79 GW).

In January, 26 plants went into operation, totaling 1,35 GW of capacity. In total, there were 13 photovoltaic plants (567,21 MW), two thermoelectric plants (459,00 MW), 10 wind plants (315,00 MW) and one small hydroelectric plant (9,33 MW).

According to ANEEL, seven states in four regions of Brazil had enterprises authorized for commercial operation in the first month of 2025.

The highlights, in decreasing order, were Mato Grosso do Sul, with 383 MW resulting from the entry into operation of the Suzano Central Generating Thermoelectric Plant, and Minas Gerais, with seven plants and 336,83 MW installed.

According to ANEEL, on February 6, the Brazilian electricity matrix totals 209.72 GW of inspected power. Of this total, 85% are from plants considered renewable.
