B3 auctions enabled R$ 38.4 billion in investments in the electricity sector in 2023

B3, the São Paulo stock exchange, held 38 auctions related to various sectors in 2023, where more than R$ 100 billion in investments were handled. Considering only assets linked to the energy sector, the amounts made viable total R$ 38.4 billion. 

According to B3, the highlight was the 2nd Energy Transmission Auction held on December 15, promoted by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) and the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy). 

On that occasion, three lots with projects in the states of Goiás, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Tocantins were auctioned, with expected investments of R$ 21.7 billion.

There was also another transmission auction on June 30, whose investment totaled R$ 15.7 billion. The seven lots were sold, with developments in the states of Bahia, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Sergipe.

The two bidding processes carried out in 2023 were responsible for the concession of 9 thousand kilometers of transmission lines in all regions of the country. As a result, R$ 37.4 billion will be invested and around 66 thousand direct jobs will be created. The average discount for these auctions was 43%.

Nine public lighting projects were also tendered by different city halls. In total, it is estimated that more than 3 million inhabitants in the South, Southeast and Northeast regions will benefit, with investments in lighting parks reaching R$ 1 billion. 

Disputes related to public lighting at B3 led to average discounts of 51%, which represents a monthly saving for municipalities of more than R$ 5 million. This was the year with the most public lighting auctions on the stock exchange, surpassing 2020, which had seven projects.

In addition to the auctions related to the energy sector, B3 promoted five auctions linked to highways (R$ 28 billion in capex and R$ 11.7 billion in opex), ports (R$ 1.4 billion), airports (2.3 billion) and four competitions in the area of basic sanitation (R$ 4 billion).
