Brazil ended the dry period with the best level of energy storage in the last 14 years. According to the National System Operator, the reservoirs of the National Interconnected System (SIN) hydroelectric plants in October have 68% of storage, which indicates that energy supply conditions remain comfortable until April 2024, when the wet period ends.

The South subsystem had the best energy storage rate, with 88%, followed by the Southeast/Central-West (69%), Northeast (60%) and North (58%). The data was presented during the 285th ordinary meeting of the Electrical Sector Monitoring Committee (CMSE), held last Thursday (9).

The ONS also registered a new record for solar generation on October 23, with 24.521 average megawatts (MWmed).

Expansion of generation and transmission

In October, approximately 639 MW of installed electricity generation capacity and 388 km of transmission lines were added.

Thus, until October, the expansion totaled 7.799 MW of installed capacity, 5.481 km of transmission lines and 14.736 megavoltamperes (MVA) of transformation capacity.
