O Magazine Luiza, one of the largest retail chains in Brazil, announced the energization of another solar power plant in the segment of GD (distributed generation).

The new self-production plant is located in municipality of Luís Eduardo Magalhães, in the interior of Bahia, has 3 MWp of installed capacity and is part of the company's plan to reduce its carbon footprint over the next few years.

“We count on 17 solar power plants, distributed across 11 states, which supply 626 stores“, said Ana Luiza Herzog, ESG manager at Magazine Luiza.

“We are aware of our environmental impact and our goal is to continue promoting the installation of this type of plants in the country”, added the executive.

A new plant is the result of a agreement signed with the company GDSUN, which operates in the development and generation of solar energy in the country.

This is sixth plant solar energy from Magazine Luiza the operated by GDSUN – which will now contribute to the generation of 15.330 MWh per year for the retailer.

“Solar energy generation has grown exponentially in recent years, and we know that there is still a lot of space to be conquered in the clean energy market,” said Arthur Sousa, CEO of GDSUN.

“Our objective is to boost the transition of the energy matrix of large companies, in order to increasingly encourage sustainable projects with the necessary quality and safety”, added the businessman.

According to data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), Brazil surpassed the 24 GW mark of installed power in the solar DG segment in October this year, with more than 6 GW added in 2023 alone.
