The MCTI (Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation), in Brasília (DF), suffered a blackout on the morning of this Thursday (19) after a fire broke out in a power substation that supplies the building.

Despite the incident, there was no need for evacuation and no one was injured. The building also houses employees from the Ministries of Cities and of Integration and Social Development.

In a statement, Neoenergia Brasília – the distributor responsible for supplying energy in the region – reported that, for safety reasons, it was necessary to interrupt the supply at the affected substation.

The distributor added that technical teams have been mobilized and are working on-site to identify the causes of the incident. According to the company, there is still no estimated time for the restoration of service.

See below for the full text of the distributor's statement:

"Regarding the incident recorded this morning (February 19th) at the substation serving the Ministry of Science and Technology, we inform you that our teams are working on-site in conjunction with the Fire Department."

The dynamics of the incident are being investigated. For safety reasons, the power supply had to be interrupted to ensure adequate working conditions for the teams.

We emphasize that there were no reports of any impact or incident involving people at the site.
