In the early hours of Tuesday (14), Brazil faced a blackout that affected all of the country's energy subsystems.
Immediately, Alexandre Silveira, Minister of the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy), sought to minimize the impact of the incident, stating that the incident was not caused by a lack of energy, but rather by a problem in the transmission infrastructure, caused by a fire in a substation in Paraná.
Silveira also said that the National System Operator (ONS) acted quickly to correct the failure, using a modern monitoring and response system. "The National System Operator responded quickly thanks to a modern system from our national operator," the minister emphasized.
Reinforcement of transmission infrastructure
Silveira also noted that Brazil's power transmission system has been strengthened over the past few years, with significant investments to prevent widespread failures.
He mentioned the contracting of 70 billion reais in transmission lines, in addition to ongoing works in several regions of the country, such as the Northeast, and the recent connection of Manaus to Boa Vista, which increase the security of the energy supply.
"We're working throughout Brazil's Northeast region toward the Southeast's load center. We're also connecting Manaus to Boa Vista. We have greater energy security," he stated.
