The MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) began, last Friday (19), a public consultation that aims to gather opinions from society and the electricity sector on the adoption of smart meters in the country.
Participation will be open for 15 days and is part of the national policy of gradual digitalization of distribution networks, defined by Normative Ordinance 11/2025. Among the points under discussion are:
- The immediate implementation of smart meters in 4% of consumer units in each concession area;
- The definition of the minimum functionalities of the equipment, its ownership and the financing model;
- The possibility of using PEE (Energy Efficiency Program) resources for installation;
- In addition to the guidelines for preparing a CBA (Cost-Benefit Analysis), which should guide the expansion of the project in the medium and long term.
According to the MME, the initiative seeks to make the electricity sector more modern and efficient, reducing losses, lowering operating costs and ensuring higher quality in service provision.
