O Federal Public Ministry of Paraíba (MPF-PB) suggested the opening of public consultation to discuss the issuance of environmental licenses for renewable energy ventures built in the State, such as wind and solar.
Called “free consultation protocol”, the document is being designed to “protect areas of traditional communities and quilombola territories of the countless damages and risk of damage that are caused by the projects”.
The working group will discuss this week the consultation protocol to be observed by control bodies when issuing licenses, in light of the normative rules that protect traditional communities, especially the ILO treaty 169, Federal Constitution and Decree 6,040, of 2007 .
According to the MPF, the production of renewable energy, whether wind or sunlight, cannot have an excessive impact on family farmers, quilombolas and traditional communities in the northeastern semi-arid region, creating a situation in which they are left with the negative impacts and the rest of society retains the benefits of the enterprises.
